Chapter 1

Introduction

TubePool is a panel that lives inside DaVinci Resolve. It has its own small browser: find the video on YouTube, TikTok or Instagram, press download, and the clip lands in your Media Pool, ready to drag onto the timeline.

Under the hood it uses yt-dlp to fetch the file and FFmpeg to make sure Resolve can read it. You never see either of them. There’s also a companion panel for Premiere Pro.

Chapter 2

What it’s for

  • Your own uploads. Re-cut an old video when the original project files are long gone.
  • Reference. Grab a shot you want to study frame by frame next to your own edit.
  • Licensed and Creative Commons footage that’s hosted on these platforms.
  • Audio only, for a voice note, a podcast clip or music you’ve licensed.
Heads up

Only download what you have the right to use: your own videos, Creative Commons, licensed material or fair use. Downloading other people’s content can break the platform’s terms and copyright law. You’re responsible for what you download.

Chapter 3

How to use it

  1. Open the panel. In Resolve Studio go to Workspace → Workflow Integrations → TubePool.

  2. Find the video. Browse inside the panel, or paste a link into the address box.

  3. Choose what you want: the video, or the audio only.

  4. Download. TubePool picks the best quality available and shows the progress.

  5. Edit. The clip appears in your Media Pool. Drag it to the timeline like any other clip. A copy also stays in the TubePool Downloads folder in your home folder.

Tip

You don’t need to sign in to download public videos. If a post needs a login, sign in inside the panel with a password or SMS code. Google often blocks sign-in from embedded browsers, and passkeys won’t work there.

Chapter 4

How to install

Before you start

  • You need DaVinci Resolve Studio. The free version can’t load Workflow Integration plugins, so the menu stays grey. Check under DaVinci Resolve → About DaVinci Resolve: it should say Studio.
  • Turn on scripting. Go to Preferences → System → General and set External scripting using to Local. Save and restart Resolve.

Mac

  1. Download the Mac build from the TubePool folder and unzip it.

  2. Quit Resolve completely.

  3. Double-click Install-Mac.command. If macOS blocks it, right-click the file and choose Open, or allow it under System Settings → Privacy & Security.

  4. Wait for the installer to finish. It downloads yt-dlp and FFmpeg for you and copies the plugin to:

    /Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Workflow Integration Plugins/
  5. Open Resolve and go to Workspace → Workflow Integrations → TubePool.

Windows

  1. Download the Windows build from the TubePool folder and extract it.

  2. Quit Resolve, including the icon in the system tray.

  3. Right-click Install-Windows.bat and choose Run as administrator. If SmartScreen appears, click More info → Run anyway.

  4. Wait for it to finish. The plugin goes to:

    C:\ProgramData\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\Workflow Integration Plugins\
  5. Open Resolve and go to Workspace → Workflow Integrations → TubePool.

Premiere Pro

The Premiere panel ships in the same folder with its own read-me.

If something’s off

  • The whole Workflow Integrations menu is grey: you’re on the free version of Resolve, or scripting is still set to None.
  • The menu works but TubePool isn’t listed: the plugin folder probably ended up one level too deep after unzipping. The plugin’s files must sit directly inside its own folder.
  • Downloads suddenly stop: the platforms change often. Run the installer again to pull the newest yt-dlp.
