Chapter 1

Introduction

A text match cut keeps one word locked to the same spot on screen while everything around it changes on every cut: the page, the paper, the typeface, the colour of the highlight. Your eye stays on the word, so a fast run of cuts reads as one idea instead of noise.

I kept building these by hand in Fusion for intros, one page at a time. Match Cut does the boring part. You type a phrase, pick the word that stays put, and it builds every page, the motion and the sound for you.

Everything renders on your own computer. Nothing you type gets uploaded anywhere.

Chapter 2

What it’s for

  • Hooks for Reels, TikTok and Shorts. The first second of a vertical video, before anyone decides to scroll.
  • Title cards and chapter breaks inside longer YouTube videos.
  • Name or brand reveals. Lock your name and let a dozen different pages flash past it.
  • Quotes and lyrics, when one word in the line carries the whole meaning.

It exports 9:16, 4:5, 1:1 and 16:9, at 24, 25, 30 or 60 fps, in 1080p or 4K. So the same cut works for a Reel, a feed post and a YouTube video.

Chapter 3

How to use it

  1. Type your phrase. Open Match Cut and write the line in Phrase.

  2. Lock the word. Tap the word that should stay put. Tap a neighbour too if you want two or more words locked together.

  3. Pick the page text. Generated fills the pages around your word from a topic (News, Tech, Money, Film or Mixed). My own uses text you paste in, like a script or a caption.

  4. Choose the look. Mix page styles (Paper, Newsprint, Web, Dark, Notes, Typewriter, Code, Terminal, Eddie), then a highlight (Marker, Box, Underline, Circle or Colour only) and its colour.

  5. Set the motion. Cuts per second and length set the speed. Pacing can speed up or slow down toward the end, and Hold last card keeps the final frame on screen. Zoom, depth blur, tilt, push-in, grain and vignette add camera feel.

  6. Add sound. Pick a sound for every cut (Paper, Tick, Shutter or Thump). The last card gets a longer hit.

  7. Export. Export MP4 saves the video. Save frame saves the current frame as a PNG, and Sound only saves the cut sounds as a WAV you can drop on your timeline.

Tip

Keep the locked word short and put it in the middle of the phrase. It lands in the centre of every page, so a long word or one at the very start squeezes the text around it.

Chapter 4

How to install

There’s nothing to install. Open eddieenguyen.com/matchcut in a browser and start typing.

  • Best results: Chrome or Edge on a computer. They put the sound inside the MP4.
  • Other browsers: the video still exports. If the sound doesn’t come with it, use Sound only and line the WAV up on your timeline. It starts on frame one.
  • 4K takes longer to export and needs a recent computer. Try 1080p first.
  • Phones can preview and export too, but a computer is faster for long or 4K cuts.
